Orthodontics is the discipline in dentistry where crooked teeth are aligned properly. In orthodontics, an ideal occlusal and skeletal relationship is the primary goal. The end result of this relationship is a beautiful smile.

Orthodontics can be done at any age. An ideal time for placement of braces is between 10 and 14 years of age, while the head and mouth are still growing and teeth are more accessible to straightening.

It is very important to keep your teeth as clean as possible during active orthodontic treatment. One should brush after every meal and floss daily (at the minimum). Food can become trapped by the brackets and it can lead to decay underneath the orthodontic brackets or band. Also, this could lead to discolouration (staining) of the teeth underneath the brackets.
